Working with Community Organizations
Through its numerous contacts with city agencies and groups, GBLS
conducts local outreach to identify those most at risk of becoming
displaced. GBLS collaborates closely with Chelsea Public Housing
tenants, Boston Housing Authority Resident Advisory Board, the
Boston Rental Housing Resource Agency, Boston Aging Concerns, Young
and Old United, ABCD, Boston Tenant Coalition, HUD Tenant Alliance,
Greater Boston Interfaith Organization, and numerous other
organizations in the city that work closely with this population. It
works proactively in subsidized developments throughout the City and
has had great success in preserving affordable housing for elderly
and disabled residents in developments in Allston/Brighton and in
Mattapan. This work often includes working closely with neighborhood
community development corporations such as the Allston-Brighton CDC,
the Asian CDC, the Fenway CDC, the Neighborhood CDC, and NOAH. GBLS
also works closely with statewide organizations such as CHAPA.
GBLS staff also sit on the City of Boston's Elderly Housing Task Force and
assist in identifying the multitudinous housing
issues faced by Boston seniors as well as victims of domestic
violence.
