In-House Attorney Drive

When there is nowhere else to turn, low-income families and individuals, elders, people with disabilities, and other underserved groups look to Greater Boston Legal Services for help securing the basic necessities of life.

Through the In-House Counsel / Workplace Giving Drive, attorneys and other employees at Boston-area companies raise money to support GBLS, which provides representation, advice, and other critical legal assistance to almost 12,500 Boston-area residents facing serious civil legal problems. In 2020, donors at 12 companies raised over $100,000 to support GBLS’ mission to provide free legal help to people who need it, a mission made even more urgent in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. With your support, GBLS can continue to help our most vulnerable neighbors remain safely housed during the pandemic, access necessary health care and unemployment benefits, and navigate a legal system made less accessible by virtue of it being almost completely remote.

There is a tremendous unmet need for legal aid, but donors like you help close the gap. With your support, Greater Boston Legal Services can continue to represent people who should not be denied justice simply because they cannot afford legal representation. Thank you for making “justice for all” a reality for our most vulnerable neighbors!

How much should I give?

Typical gifts range from $250 - $1,000.  Here’s how your gift can help an individual or family facing one of the most challenging situations of their lives:

  • $1,000 could enable a GBLS attorney to represent an abuse survivor in divorce and custody proceedings;
  • $500 could fund the representation of an elderly person to access medication and health care;
  • $300 could help a homeless family obtain emergency shelter.

Note: Grant recommendations to your donor-advised fund can be made online here. Checks made payable to Greater Boston Legal Services can be mailed to GBLS c/o: Lauren Shryne, Greater Boston Legal Services, 197 Friend Street, Boston, MA 02114.

Thank you!
