Associates Fund Drive

Each year, associate attorneys at more than 45 Boston-area law firms participate in the Greater Boston Legal Services Associates Fund Drive. The Drive is a long-standing grassroots fundraising effort, having been created and run by associates in the 1990s. Through the Drive, Boston-area associates raise hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to support GBLS's work helping survivors of domestic violence survivors find safety and stability.

GBLS provides free civil legal aid to over 12,000 low-income families and individuals in Boston and 31 surrounding cities and towns. Because of its limited resources, GBLS is forced to turn away about half of people who seek help. Despite this, GBLS consistently helps people facing serious legal challenges protect themselves and their families.

How Much Should I Give?

Typical gifts range from $300 to $500, either as one-time donations or through sustaining monthly gifts of as little as $20.  Here’s how your money directly impacts the ability of GBLS attorneys to serve survivors of domestic violence who need legal help to achieve safety for themselves and their familes, but do not have the means to pay for a lawyer:

  • $5,000 helps a GBLS attorney represent a survivor in a contested custody case
  • $1,000 supports representation at a two-party restraining order hearing
  • $500 supports assistance drafting a strong pre-trial memorandum for a survivor
  • $300 provides a one-hour counsel and advice session to a survivor in need
