Family Law Community Partnerships

Suffolk and Middlesex Domestic Violence Projects

Located at offices in the Suffolk County Probate and Family Court (Boston) and Middlesex County Probate and Family Court (Cambridge), advocates from the Family Law Unit assist walk-in clients applying for restraining orders or seeking to renew an existing restraining order.

Medical-Legal Collaboration

Domestic violence advocates at several Boston area hospitals receive legal training by GBLS attorneys in order to spot legal issues of their clients and make appropriate referrals to GBLS.

Cambridge Abuse Prevention Project (CAPP)

Made possible through a grant from the City of Cambridge, a Family Law Unit attorney provides trainings and advice to advocates working in human services organizations in Cambridge. In addition, Cambridge residents who are victims of domestic violence are given legal advice or representation in court in obtaining or renewing a restraining order, getting a divorce or in paternity cases.

Latinas 'Know Your Rights' Project

Through this project, the Family Law Unit provides advocacy and training to individuals in the community on the legal rights of immigrant Latina women experiencing domestic violence. Participants then go on to become community leaders in the effort to stem domestic violence in the immigrant community.
